Hey all – After nearly a month of waiting to learn how to jailbreak iPad 3, it appears that the wait may soon be over. The iOS hacker @POD2G has said that all of the exploits for an iOS 5.1 jailbreak are now in place, and that all we’re waiting on is for him to figure out how to bypass ASLR at bootup.

@ion1c has indicated that he already has an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 on the iPad 3, but will not release it due to the fact that he wants to be paid for it in some way. He says that he is tired of other people making money off of jailbreaks, when the devs remain poor. I, for one, support him! Tons of companies and websites make money off of the freely released jailbreaks, so why should anyone question why the developers might want to cash in?

At any rate, iClarified carried the whole story today. They indicated that when the untethered iOS 5.1 comes out, that the iPad 3 jailbreak will be included. This will be the first jailbreak for iPad 3. Thus far, as we’ve talked about before on this blog, we have a tethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 devices such as the iPhone 4 and the iPad 1. Currently though, no jailbreak exists for the iPhone 4S, the iPad 2, or the iPad 3. The iPad 2 was previously jailbroken on iOS 5 and iOS 5.1, but anyone who upgraded to iOS 5.1 would not be able to downgrade again, and thus would be out of luck when it comes to being able to jailbreak new iPad 3.

The jailbreak that is believed to be on it’s way via @Pod2G is a userland jailbreak, and we’re hoping that it’ll be available in the next 1-2 weeks. We’ve said before that many companies are currently taking pre-orders for the iPad 3 jailbreak. This is further evidence that the jailbreak for iPad 3 is definitely in the works and should be coming soon.

These days, it’s not uncommon for a jailbreak to take over a month after a new device or iOS version is released. We’ve been lucky a couple of times in the past where a jailbreak has come out almost immediately, but with Apple getting better all the time at patching security holes and closing exploits, it seems that there is more and more work to do each time a new jailbreak has to be found. It’s possible that one day soon, Apple will get so good at patching security exploits that we’ll sometimes see iOS versions for which no jailbreak is ever found before a new iOS is released. Thankfully, it doesn’t look that that will be the case this time around.

For all who are bugging @Pod2G and @iOn1c on Twitter or via their blogs, we recommend that you don’t. These guys put a lot of work into jailbreaks, and they’ve successfully released them before. Bugging them or being “mean” isn’t going to hurry things along, and may in fact make them decide not to release the jailbreak at all. Rest assured, the jailbreak from them and possibly jailbreaks via other hackers using different exploits are in the works, and it won’t be long now before they’re released. As always, keep checking back here for the latest information on the ability to learn how to jailbreak iPad 3 on iOS 5.1.

You’ll probably do the normal stuff with it initially. You know, surfing the web, using Facetime for 3G and other cool apps, maybe watching Netflix, and perhaps getting ready jailbreak iPad 3 and install some cool Cydia apps on it. But there are a few other uses which people are utilizing the new tablet for that will blow your mind. These are only a few. I’m sure you’ll think of even more cool uses for it.

So what are some of the coolest ways that people are using the new iPad?

1)Extreme Sports: Normally, taking your iPad 3, or any other tablet with you while you participate in extreme sports would seem anathema and foolhardy. After all, these devices are tough, but they’re made for urban use, not to be carried with you while you surf or rock-climb. All of that is changing though, and people ARE in fact taking their iPad 3 with them when they go rock-climbing. How? There is an outdoor case for the iPad 3 called G-Form. It uses a technology called reactive protection that is like something out of a sci-fi novel. The G-Form protective case uses a hi-tech exoskeleton to protect the device and make sure that it’s all but impervious to being broken. When this technology was debuted, the company behind it ran a car over the new iPad 3 to show what it could survive undamaged. Water? No problem. Go swimming with it. Dropping it from 20 feet? No sweat. This case can survive a bowling ball being dropped on it. Skydiving? That my be next…

2)The World’s Most Expensive and Full Featured Remote Control:

The iPad 3 can be used as a couch potato’s best friend as you surf the channels or follow your favorite sports team. There is an add on piece of hardware available called the “Aptwee“. This device hooks into your TV, DVR, Stereo, or just about any type of home electronics. The Aptwee can be used, at the time of this writing, with 200 different brands and 845 specific models of home entertainment and home theater equipment. The Aptwee connects to your home electronics, and then an infrared dongle hooks to your new iPad 3 tablet via the headphone jack. The dongle is then interfaced remotely to the Aptwee via a free app that you can download from the app store. You can then use your iPad as a full featured remote control to control just about any function of your home electronics devices. With an iPad 3 jailbreak, we expect to see even more functionality added.

3)X-Ray Machine:

The company VMWare has created an app that is being used in a few forward thinking hospitals around the country to treat patients. Doctors and other health care practitioners can download the app, which then remotely connects to a desktop or laptop PC. With the app downloaded and the correct software installed on the PC, the health care workers can then access the desktop via the iPad 3 to view x-rays, check up on tests that have recently come back from the lab for a patient, and to view just about any health records or pertinent information imaginable.

4)Be a DJ!

A new app called (what else?) Djay is making it possible for anyone to be a disc jockey. It allows you to mix, remix, create scratches, and do just about anything that you could do with high end turntables and DJ equipment. You can add a bunch of songs when you’re connected, and then mix them on the fly when you might be off-line. It even offers a feature to tag songs by mood and then queue them later by the mood that you select.

5)The Waiter’s Best Friend

At the Thr3e Wise Men Brewing Company restaurant in Indianapolis, Indiana, there is an iPad 3 encased securely in every table. The restaurant doesn’t offer traditional menus – you use the iPad 3 in the table to place your order. While you wait, you can check the status of the order, which is updated live from the kitchen, as well as watching videos about the brewing process if you don’t feel like talking to your dining companions. In a social media coup, they also have a function where you can live tweet or Facebook about your experience in the restaurant.

What other uses for the iPad 3 can YOU think of? Can you think of even more that could be made available once you jailbreak iPad 3?

iPad 3 iOS 5.1 Jailbreak

Several jailbreakers have already jailbroken iPad 3. However, it’s still not available for public download. The very day that the new iPad was released, the iPhone Dev Team, who have been instrumental in many previous jailbreaks, announced that they had already been able to jailbreak iPad 3 iOS 5.1. They noted a few items to be aware of, including the fact that the method used to jailbreak the new iPad 3 was the exact same method used to jailbreak iPad 2 a couple of months ago, and that this method is also working for iOS 5.1. They went on to say that this method uses kernel dumps, and will allow them to get a “foot in the door” and get a jumpstart on the jailbreak.

Secondly, they alerted everyone to the fact that @ionic has tweeted pictures of his iPad 2 running a jailbreak on iOS 5.1. This is great news as well, because he used an entirely different method to do the jailbreak. This gives us a 2nd avenue which may be able to be ported to the iPad 3, since they share the same A5x processor.

The third bit of news that the iPhone Dev Team alerted us to was that a 3rd type of jailbreak was being worked on by a guy close to the Cydia repo scene who goes by the handle of @phoenixdev. This would give us not 2, but 3 distinct avenues for jailbreaking the iPad 3.

Check out the Video:

When these announcements came out, we thought that it meant the jailbreak would be imminent and would be coming out any time. However, this announcement from iPhone Dev was made on March 16th, and we still have no publicly available jailbreak. While it could come any day now, @Pod2G has indicated that it could still be 2-3 more weeks before a jailbreak for the new iPad 3 is publicly available. It seems that, despite the fact that the developers have iPad 3 jailbreaks in their possession, they’re proving to be buggy, making them unsuitable quite yet for public consumption.

There are several companies taking pre-orders for tutorials that will teach how to jailbreak iPad 3. Some of them offer some pretty great bonuses for purchasing now rather than waiting until the jailbreak is finally 100% ready. We talk about one of these offers in this post from awhile back.

Whether you decide to pre-order a jailbreak or to wait until the publicly available release comes out, there is one thing that you should note – if Apple decides to roll out an iOS version that is higher than what your iPad 3 shipped with, you should not update to it under any circumstances if you plan to jailbreak. This is because the jailbreak developers are currently trying to jailbreak 5.1, and work on any future jailbreak cannot even begin until after the new iOS is released to the general public. What’s more, if you update to, let’s say, iOS 5.1.1 or iOS 5.2 if either of those ends up being released, you’ll be unable to downgrade back to 5.1 unless you save your SHSH blobs beforehand. This is a pretty complicated procedure, and we don’t recommend it for the average user. So, just to reiterate, if a higher iOS than iOS 5.1 comes available for the new iPad 3, do not update to it under any circumstances. In fact, it might worthwhile for you to just turn off updates while you’re thinking about it. It would be awful to accidentally update to iOS 5.2 or something, and then have an iPad 3 jailbreak for 5.1 come out, and be stuck at 5.2 and not be able to take advantage of the new jailbreak.

Stay tuned, and keep checking back, and we’ll update you as soon as any more information about the iPad 3 on iOS 5.1 being jailbreak is released.

It seems that the jailbreaking dream team has done it again, and this time, in record time, with record speed. The geniuses over at the iPhone Dev Team announced that they’ve already jailbroken the new iPad 3, but that the jailbreak isn’t quite ready for public release. This initial jailbreak was announced, with a screenshot as proof, only a day after the iPad was released in stores to wild acclaim. @Musclenerd, the famous hacker, was the first to report success with the iPad 3 jailbreak. He indicated that he had been successful, but that, as always, there was a lot of work to do in order to package the jailbreak for public use.

This is in stark contrast to the situation with the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S. If your remember, those devices carried the new A6 processor, which had never been jailbroken before. This meant that not only did a new device and new iOS have to be hacked, but a new CPU as well. That jailbreak took nearly 3 months between the time that the devices were released to market and the time that the jailbreaks were made publicly available. On the other hand, the iPad 3 uses the same A6 processor as those devices, and the iOS (5.1) is only a little different, leading to a much easier jailbreak. Many are saying that we are now, in fact, in a GOLDEN AGE of jailbreaking, where the next few jailbreaks will come fast and furious.

On the iPhone Dev Team blog, they confirmed a few things for us:

1)The method used to jailbreak the iPad 2 back when that jailbreak came out (in December) is the same method being used to jailbreak 5.1. That’s good news because it indicates that it’ll be easier, and won’t require starting from scratch, when working to get the requisite kernel dumps for the new iPad 3. They say that this isn’t the be all and end all, and there’s more work to be done, but that this makes things much easier and will help to speed things along.

2)The famous jailbreak hacker @ion1c has already tweeted pics of a jailbreak of the iPad 2 running 5.1. This another important step, as the iPad 2 is so similar to the iPad 3, as well as because of the fact that the iPad 3 ships with iOS 5.1 installed. What’s more, @ion1c is using a completely different method for the jailbreak than the old method mentioned in #1, above. This means another avenue of attack if anything goes wrong with the first method.

3)Yet another jailbreak seems to be in the works form someone named @phoenixdev. Yet another cool story, since the more individual jailbreak methods available, the more likely that something official will be released soon!

So even though there is not yet a public jailbreak for iPad 3, there’s no reason to fret. Things are coming along nicely, and something should be out any day now. There’s absolutely no reason to think that this will turn out like the old 4S jailbreak or the iPad 2 jailbreak, where we had to wait for ages for the jailbreak to arrive in an official form that any non-hacker could use. It’s simply not going to happen that way. Apple is not nearly as good as they would like people to believe at patching holes and shoring up exploits. Every time a jailbreak comes out, there are holes in it. Holes mean exploits, and exploits mean the potential for someone or some company to be the first to come out with a jailbreak that everyone can use. We’ll continue to keep you updated here on the blog, and we’ll have a review of the best jailbreak software for iPad 3 as soon as it’s available. In the meantime, stay tuned and keep checking back!

Hey loyal blog readers! So the iPad 3 has been jailbroken for a little while now, and I thought that it might be helpful for some of you if I did a review of what are, in my opinion, the top 3 best sites to jailbreak iPad 3. I spent the past week shelling out mostly my own cash (thanks to all who donated to the effort!) and testing the biggest 7 iPad jailbreak sites out there that purport to have an iPad 3 jailbreak. Each of the 3 that made the cut for this review have a verified jailbreak for the new iPad that’s updated to the latest iOS, and each one of them uses automatic software to get the job done.

The ones that didn’t make the cut either turned out to not actually have a jailbreak for iPad 3, or the software was just so bad that it was nearly unusable. There was definitely a clear winner among the top 3, though, so make sure you read the reviews below. Of course, you can do a jailbreak on your own, but I don’t recommend it. It can be pretty frustrating to try and go all “hacker” and spend hours or days doing a jailbreak on your own. It’s worth ponying up a few bucks to use the automatic software and get your iPad 3 jailbroken in 5 minutes flat. Anyway, enough of this intro. Let’s get into the nitty gritty of the the review! Here are my top 3, in descending order of quality:

1)Jailbreak Plus

This site has to be seen to be fully appreciated. This is one of the biggest jailbreak sites for all devices right now, from the iPhone to the iPad 3, and with good reason. These guys have been my “go to” site ever since they launched back in 2009. I’ve mentioned if before on the blog, but I make a little cash on the side doing jailbreaks locally here in Denver. As of this week, I’ve used Jailbreak Plus on 87 iPhones, iPads, and iPods – all under the one time payment that I made back in 2009.

So after you sign up, it takes you to a screen where you choose your device (Pick iPad 3 if that’s what you’re trying to jailbreak). It then provides you with the software that you need to download and install. It’s a small download and took maybe 30 seconds. It walks you through the install and jailbreak process. From start to finish, it takes about 5 and a half minutes from the time you pay to the time you complete your iPad 3 jailbreak. After you get the software installed, you just launch the app, hit the “Start” button, and go grab a drink while it does everything automagically.

Unlike some sites, the jailbreak is untethered, which means that it’s complete jailbreak that you do once and never have to do again. Some sites offer tethered jailbreaks, which means that every time you reboot or turn off your iPad, you have to rejailbreak it – major pain the in butt if you ask me!

Jailbreak Plus takes Paypal and credit cards through a secure server on an https connection, so you know that your data is secure. What’s more, their checkout is right on their own site, letting you know that they have a verified merchant account the same as any reputable online business – a lot of these smaller jailbreak sites don’t, and they send you off site to some shady 3rd party payment processor because they can’t qualify for a merchant account. So if for some reason you’re not happy with your purchase (trust me – you’re going to like these guys), you can get a refund through Paypal or your credit card company.

They also offer a pretty sweet set of bonuses, with the best one being the package of essential apps for jailbroken devices.

I wanted to make sure that this review was thorough and professional, so I sent each of the companies that I tried out a “test question” to both their customer service and technical support departments. Jailbreak Plus did an A+ job on both questions that I sent them. The responses both came back in less than 30 minutes, and the answer was accurate and complete. Their employee who responded seemed like a knowledgeable professional, and it was obvious that they spoke English as a first language (some of these sites outsource their tech support to companies in India that barely speak English). These guys really are the cream of the crop, and I have no qualms about recommending them as my top pick. Overall score 9/10. You Should Click Here to Check Them Out Now

2)Jailbreak Unlock

Note: This site is currently taking pre-orders for the iPad 3 jailbreak and should have it available in days. If you want to jailbreak iPad 3 now, check out Jailbreak Plus.

These guys are my #2 pick. A solid company, and a solid site, but not quite as slick or professional an operation as iPhone Jailbreak Plus. On this site, the jailbreak was automatic, just like on my top pick. The process was about 12 minutes from the time you pay to the time that you’re finished and you’ve done your iPad 2 jailbreak. Not too shabby. Their price is a little bit higher as well, although that might not be an issue for some people. They do take Paypal and all major credit cards, and they run on a secure https connection so that your data is safe.

One of my biggest beefs with these guys is that they only offer a tethered jailbreak right now. I don’t why some of these companies think that this is acceptable. Why would I want to rejailbreak my iPad 2 every time I reboot it or shut it off when I can go and use a company that let’s me have a permanent jailbreak? Oh well.

Just like with my top pick, the instructions were easy to follow, and the jailbreak went off without a hitch. And just as with all of the sites that I tried out, I sent them a couple of “test questions” to see how their support teams would respond. On the customer service question (I told them I was having trouble logging in), their response time was 4 hours and 22 minutes. For the tech support question, they got back to me after 7 hours and 18 minutes. The responses were professional and helpful, and seemed to be coming from native English speaker. Just a little heads up if you decide to go with these guys – the members area looks a little rough. They really need to pony up the cash to do a site redesign so that the members area doesn’t look like something from 10 years ago. Overall Rating: 7/10 Click Here to Check Them Out Now

3)iJailbreak Tool

Note: This site is currently taking pre-orders for the iPad 3 jailbreak and should have it available in days. If you want to jailbreak iPad 3 now, check out Jailbreak Plus.

This site was Ok, and is not a scam or anything, unlike some sites that I tested. For this reason, it gets my #3 nod. They offer an untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2, which I think is a must. However, the fact that this site made the top 3 goes to show you how bad some of the others were that I tested. For one, they don’t have a merchant account. They send you off to a payment processor called “Plimus Inc” where you complete your checkout. Is Plimus legit? They seem to be, but the transaction wasn’t processed over a secure https connection, which irked me a bit. I’ll be watching my credit card statement just to make sure there isn’t anything funny going on.

Their instructions gave me a lot of trouble. They were vague in a couple of places, which left me wondering if I was doing it right. I didn’t need to send these guys a test question for tech support – I had actual questions on how to get the jailbreak done using their software! They did respond after about 12 hours, which wasn’t terrible. However, this is one of those companies that I mentioned that apparently outsources their support to India. Obviously not native English speakers manning the support desk, which is so annoying. Regardless, these guys DO have an iPad 3 jailbreak available, and it works, which is more than I can say for some sites. As a result, they get an Overall Rating of 4/10.

Anyhoo, that’s all that I’ve time to write today. If you’re looking to jailbreak the new iPad 3, I hope that this review helps you separate the wheat from the chaff, so that you can pick a legit company and get your jailbreak done quick and easy. Stay tuned for another post in the coming week.

Until then, take care and enjoy that new iPad 3 – I know I’m loving mine!

iPad 3 Jailbroken Within Hours of Release

The iPad 3 had only been out for a few hours when some of the usual cast of characters in the jailbreaking world announced that they had already done an iPad 3 jailbreak. It seems that if Apple were trying to lock down the device against jailbreaking, they failed. It was almost as if they WANTED someone to figure out how to jailbreak iPad 3 immediately. Within hours, there were multiple methods and exploits being used to jailbreak new iPad.

The famous jailbreak hacker-hero Musclenerd of the equally famous hacker collective known as the iPhone Dev Team tweeted pictures of the new iPad 3 running Cydia as well as a terminal application the night of the release. His tweet indicated that the jailbreak was still in it’s initial form and wasn’t quite ready for public consumption, saying “Just a first step, still lots of work to do!”

Why Jailbreak New iPad 3?

Apple said that reports of a glut of supply and low demand were completely inaccurate, and that demand for the iPad 3 tablet was just as strong – or stronger – than they had ever seen, with sales the initial weekend outpacing what they had seen for either the iPad 2 or the original iPad. They indicated that 3 million iPad 3 tablets had been shipped and sold to end users the first weekend of the launch. If their figures are to be believed, they’d sold 55 million iPads in all (including iPad 1 and 2) since the original iPad was released back in 2010.

There are great reasons to jailbreak iPad 3, but there could also be reasons to stay away. Reasons to do an iPad 3 jailbreak include being able to install 3rd party, unauthorized apps, as well as being able to customize the iPad 3 beyond what Apple allows by default. On the other hand, reasons to avoid jailbreaking might include the fact that installing 3rd party apps can affect battery life. Some 3rd party, unauthorized apps are hastily thrown together, and not well optimized, causing battery drain issues and potentially affecting the stability of the iOS. Many fans are willing to take the risk, though, as it’s estimated that nearly 10% of people who own iPhones, iPads, or iPods have gone ahead and done a jailbreak,

Worries about legal ramifications shouldn’t enter the picture, since the Digital Millennium Copyright Act gives a clear “Fair Use” exemption for jailbreaking, effectively affirming the legality of the practice. Apple continues to claim that jailbreaking violates it’s intellectual property rights, although the US government and all other governments around the world who’ve ruled on the practice disagree.

Many of the apps available through the Cydia store are not the types of apps that you normally get in the standard app store through Apple. Rather, they are extensions and customizations. These apps extend the customization abilities of the iOS itself as well as other standard apps, allowing them to perform in ways that they cannot do “off the shelf”. These apps and extensions add additional features and sometimes fix bugs, as well as providing access to the command line and file-system of both the iOS and the code for these regular apps.

As with nearly every tech release recently, especially those from Apple, it appears that there is a bit of a “heat-gate” brewing when it comes to the new iPad 3. Many of the 3 million people who’ve already purchased the device are indicating that the lower lefthand corner of the tablet gets extremely hot after using the device for awhile – sometimes to hot to even touch. The initial hope is that after you learn how to jailbreak iPad 3 and apply this to the tablet, someone will eventually come up with a bug fix in Cydia that fixes the issue.

Many people who paid hundreds of dollars for their new iPad 3 are taking to the apple forums to vent their frustrations about the heat issues. Even consumer reports has jumped into the fray, saying that in their testing, the new iPad 3 seems to run much hotter than the iPad 2 did, particularly when running a resource intensive application such as a game. Their tests showed that the new iPad 3 reached temperatures up to 116 F. By comparison, the iPad 2 only got up to about 102 F when running a resource intensive game.

Some say that it’s much ado about nothing, since the heat seems to emanate from just one corner of the device, and doesn’t make the iPad 3 jailbreak unusable. Consumer Reports noted that even at the device’s hottest, when playing a game, the heat wasn’t unbearable, and you could still hold onto the device. It just tended to make your hands a bit sweaty. Many expect perfection from Apple though, especially when they’ve just spent several hundred dollars on a new device. People over the last few years have come to see Apple as some kind of corporate savior, with Steve Jobs as a beneficent messiah who died for our tech sins. And as such, these fanboys and girls are not willing to tolerate anything less than perfection from the company.

SlashGear’s Vincent Nguyen said he did notice the heat issue, when he was given an advance copy of the device to test and review, but ”Nothing anywhere near uncomfortable to hold.” Apple’s only response was to say that the device operate “inside our normal thermal specifications”.

Some inside the jailbreak community are split as to whether doing an iPad 3 jailbreak 5.1 helps, hurts, or does neither when it comes to “heat gate”. Some have indicated that a jailbreak takes some of the resource drain off of the battery in some unexpected way, and that when they learned how to jailbreak iPad 3 iOS 5.1, the heat problem went away. Others insist that once you jailbreak new iPad, the processor drain seems even more intensive due perhaps to some sloppy code from the jailbreakers. One gentleman from Ann Arbor, Michigan who had done a jailbreak was interviewed on the subject. His name was Gary V. Thompson, and he indicated that he made a living as a test subject for novel pharmaceuticals at the college of human science at the University of Michigan. He said that after he did a jailbreak on his new iPad 3, he noticed that the heat got much worse. He used a thermometer from inside one of the university labs to test the device, and found that the heat was up to 139 degrees F. Whether or not he’s a trustworthy person is up for debate.

Have you been able to jailbreak iPad 3 iOS 5.1? Have you found any problems with heat? What do you think?

This has many people asking, “how to jailbreak new iPad” or “how to jailbreak the new iPad“? This is really just another way of asking “how to jailbreak iPad 3“, but I’m not here to split hairs. There are several ways to jailbreak the new iPad. They all revolve around downloading jailbreak software which automatically jailbreaks your new iPad 3 for you. All you have to is find the correct version of the software for your iOS, your device (the new iPad in this case) and your computer’s operating system (you have to have a PC or Mac in order to do a jailbreak).

How to Jailbreak iPad 3 | Jailbreaking the New iPad

When Apple first released the original iPad back in 2010, iPhone jailbreaks had been around for 3 years already. Many people wondered if it would actually be possible to jailbreak the iPad. They didn’t have to wait long though. Since the original iPad utilized the same processor as the iPhone of the time, the 3GS (A4 processor), it was a pretty simple issue to jailbreak iPad. The same team that’s done many of the iPhone jailbreaks was the first to jailbreak iPad 1. If you’re not familiar with them, they’re called the iPhone Dev Team (linked to above). The other team that’s been pretty crucial when it comes to jailbreaking many iDevices is the Chronic Dev Team, led by hacker Pod2G. Now, the iPad 3 jailbreak – also known as the new iPad jailbreak, is in it’s infancy. As I write this, on March 19th of 2012, the iPad 3 jailbreak is set to be released tomorrow on March 20th.

The new iPad jailbreak will be for iOS 5.1 only. If you don’t already know how it works, each new iOS version that comes out needs to be jailbroken for each specific device. The iPad 3 is shipping with iOS 5.1, so that’s the first iOS that will be jailbroken for the device. There is no easy way to downgrade the new iPad 3 to iOS 5.0.1 or iOS 5.0, and definitely no way to downgrade any further than that (why would anyone want to?), so it’s highly unlikely that there will ever be a way how to jailbreak iPad 3 on any lower iOS versions.

If You Do a New iPad 3 Jailbreak, Don’t Upgrade the iOS!

As with any jailbroken device, once you have the device jailbroken, don’t update your iOS for God’s sake! Jailbreak hackers don’t begin working on a jailbreak for new iOS versions until they are released to the general public. Even though they’re available in beta before that, the work doesn’t begin until the public release. This is because Apple can make last minute changes to the iOS that would render any exploits that they found obsolete and ruin their work.

For this reason, if you learn how to jailbreak iPad 3 iOS 5.1, you should not upgrade to the next iOS as soon as it comes out. No one knows at this point whether the next iOS will be iOS 5.1.1 or iOS 5.2. Whichever the case, if you have a jailbroken iPad 3 or jailbroken new iPad and you upgrade the day that the new iOS comes out, you will lose your jailbreak until the jailbreak hackers are able to come up with a jailbreak for the new iOS, and you will be unable to downgrade your iOS again unless you’ve saved SHSH blobs. And if you had the presence of mind to do that, you’re probably a jailbreaking nerd and don’t need to be told not to upgrade in the first place!

The new iPad jailbreak should be available tomorrow or the next day, according to the hackers @i0n1c and @phoenixdev. You’ll be able to purchase tech support and complete tutorials from a variety of vendors online.

So what do you think of the iPad 3′s official name? It turns out that Apple has decided not to actually call it the iPad 3. They’re just calling it the “iPad”. Or sometimes, the “new iPad”. Why would they buck the naming convention that they’ve established? It seems confusing to me. I’m sure there was some complex corporate strategy behind it, but it seems that the decision to not call the new iPad the iPad 3 after having called the previous iteration the iPad 2 is just causing mass confusion. Which begs the question, should we have called this site “How to Jailbreak New iPad” rather than “How to Jailbreak iPad 3″? Only time will tell at this point.

According to the site Cult of Mac, the hatred of the new name is overwhelming, but not universal. They’re polling results showed that a little more than half of people hate the new naming convention, and wish that Apple would go back to the previous convention, calling this device the iPad 3.

The original poll came from a site called “Sodahead“. Their polling was very detailed, and broke down the demographics of how people feel about the new name by age, religion, state, and more. There were very few demographic groups that had over 50% of members liking the new naming convention better than the old one. Notable groups that did like the new name better were those of the Baha’i or Scientology faiths, and those who lived in Wisconsin and Idaho. One of the groups that seemed to hate the new name more than other groups was those people who make over $100,000 a year. Now, what’s behind these demographic breakdowns, I couldn’t tell you. The polls weren’t scientific so, for all we know, the fact that Scientologists like the new name so much could be that only a handful of them voted and they all happened to like the name. There could be no scientific validity behind it whatsoever.

However, other polls done by Sodahead in the past have indicated that a plurality of people with new iPads and other iDevices do want to jailbreak them. Sources indicate that nearly 10% of all iDevices globally are jailbroken, with about 8% of iPads being jailbroken. Other polls suggest that nearly 35% of iDevices in China are jailbroken, although why the China jailbreak at such high rates remains a mystery.

With the plethora of options available out there to jailbreak iPad 3, though, how do you decide which one is right for you? Well, your best bet, we always say, is to buy a jailbreak solution from a trusted source. Jailbreak software is released for free, in an open source format. However, by the time you find it, many hackers have had their hands in it, and sometimes the downloads contain viruses or trojans. When you purchase jailbreak software from a respectable source, you are not actually purchasing the software. What you are purchasing is access to a direct link to the appropriate software for you, which has been tested and is guaranteed to work and be free of Trojans and Virii. What’s more is that they also offer tech support and tutorials, which can be a great boon if you’re new to jailbreaking.

Since the iPad 3 was released a couple of days ago, on March 16th 2012, many people have been asking “Can You Jailbreak iPad 3?” It’s understandable that many people are skeptical that a jailbreak would be out this soon. After all, when the iPhone 4S came out, it took nearly 2 months for an untethered jailbreak to surface. Luckily, however, since the iPad 3 runs the same A5 processor as the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, the same jailbreak that worked for those devices will work for the iPad 3 with only a few tweaks.

Introducing the iPad 3 Jailbreak!

The main jailbreak hackers, who’ve been behind nearly every jailbreak to date, have already updated the software and released it. So, yes, without a doubt, you CAN jailbreak iPad 3 on iOS 5.1 right now! Definitely be careful though. Every time a new jailbreak solution comes out, it turns out that many hackers think they will scam unsuspecting “n00bs” who may not be as technically savvy as they are. It’s pretty common to find downloads with the name of the appropriate jailbreak software all over the web, which aren’t legitimate. The download will have the exact same name as the legit application. Sometimes it will even come from a website with a very similar name, that looks exactly the same as the legitimate sites. However, once you download the jailbreak software to jailbreak iPad 3, you’ll find that either the software is just an out and out fake (it’ll be a previous iteration of the software that won’t work for the newest iOS), or even worse, you’ll find that it’s full of viruses, spyware, malware, and trojans that will try and hijack not only your iPad or iDevice, but also your PC or Mac – what they try to do is install keyloggers so that they can steal your personal information. Identity theft is a growing problem!

So what can you do to make sure that you get the jailbreak software from a trusted source and ensure that you won’t have any difficulties doing an iPad 3 jailbreak? Well, I hate to say it, but your best bet is to utilize an inexpensive paid jailbreak site. Of course, you don’t HAVE to pay for jailbreak software. It’s open source after all, if you can find the right version. But, when you utilize a paid jailbreak site, you get a few major advantages. 1st off, you know that the software is legit. You can be confident that there are no trojans or other bad stuff lurking in your download. 2nd, they’ll give you the correct software for your OS, iOS, baseband, and iDevice model. No guessing, no hoping. You’ll just know for a fact that you have the right version of the jailbreak software. Finally, the biggest benefit is the step by step tutorials that will take you by the hand and guide you through the jailbreak process. The screenshots and tutorials are super easy to follow. And what’s more, they’ll also offer technical support. So if for some reason, something seems unclear or you run into a weird error message, you’ll have an expert to ask who can guide you through the process.
